Get started with Libby

Install the Libby app from your device’s app store.

Or, visit libbyapp.com in your Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge browser.

In Libby, follow the prompts to find your library and sign in with a valid library card.

Browse your library’s collection and borrow a title.

Borrowed titles appear under Shelf > Loans and download to the app automatically when you’re connected to Wi-Fi, so you can read them when you’re offline.

From your Loans, you can:

  • Tap Read With… to choose where you’d like to read the book (Kindle or Libby), then finish sending to Kindle (U.S. libraries only) or start reading in Libby.
  • Tap Open Audiobook or Open Magazine to start reading or listening to that title.
  • Tap Manage Loan to see options like Renew and Return.

What’s the difference between an OverDrive account and a library card?

A library card:

  • Is issued by your library
  • Lets you borrow titles from their physical or digital collection
  • Is required to sign into your library’s digital collection
  • Can also be used to sign into the OverDrive app and overdrive.com (for most libraries)
  • May have other perks at the library (like granting access to a library computer)

An OverDrive account:

Even if you create an OverDrive account, you’ll still need a library card to sign into your library and borrow digital titles.

What is an OverDrive account?

You can use a free OverDrive account in the OverDrive app, on overdrive.com, and with Adobe Digital Editions (ADE).

What can I do with an OverDrive account?

  • Sign into the OverDrive app
All your saved libraries will appear in the OverDrive app for easy access. You can sign into the same OverDrive account on up to six different devices and download EPUB ebooks on each one. Once you download a title, your bookmarks and reading position are also saved to your OverDrive account.
  • Sign into overdrive.com
On overdrive.com, you can browse and search the entire OverDrive catalog, find titles at your library and other nearby libraries, and get book recommendations from OverDrive.
  • Authorize Adobe Digital Editions (ADE)
When you authorize ADE with your OverDrive account, you can download ebooks to it. If you use the OverDrive app on a mobile device, you can download the same books to ADE and the app as long as you sign in with the same account on both devices.

How do I create an OverDrive account?

You can create an OverDrive account on overdrive.com.

Does an OverDrive account replace my library card?

No. Even after you create an OverDrive account, you’ll still need a library card to sign into your library and borrow titles from their OverDrive collection(s).
